Description

This annotated edition of Uncle Tom’s Cabin includes: -Plot Summary -Biography -Characters analysis Beginning The story begins in Kentucky, where the Shelby family faces financial difficulties and is forced to sell two of their slaves, Uncle Tom and a young boy named Harry. Eliza, Harry’s mother, overhears the plan and decides to escape with her son to protect him from being sold. Middle Eliza and Harry make a dramatic escape across the icy Ohio River and eventually find refuge with a group of Quakers who assist runaway slaves. Meanwhile, Uncle Tom is sold and sent down the river on a steamboat. During the journey, Tom saves the life of Little Eva, a young white girl, and as a result, her grateful father, Augustine St. Clare, buys Tom and takes him to their home in New Orleans. At the St. Clare household, Tom forms a close bond with Eva, whose kindness and piety have a profound effect on him. However, Eva falls ill and dies, leaving her father deeply mournful. Augustine promises to free Tom but is killed in an accident before he can fulfill his promise. Consequently, Tom is sold again, this time to the vicious plantation owner Simon Legree. —- ISBN: 9798328878524
