The Mute Wife Bjorn Jorgensen drives to town from his mining home in the Colorado mountains in search of a woman who could help take care of his children in view of his recently deceased wife. After the minister tells him that there is no one available he would be interested in hiring, he is also told that a wagon master is bringing ‘brides from the east’ to town that day. Bjorn is dubious he will see anyone of interest to him, but nevertheless, he watches the spectacle. The women are quickly snapped up by the minors, except for one whom Bjorn has labeled Little Wildcat. She is obviously not there by choice and fights anyone’s attempt to touch her. Bjorn finally pays the wagon master with a gold nugget for bringing her to town to save her from a life of prostitution, but he has no intention of taking her home with him. That is, until she insists on climbing into his wagon and he learns she is lactating. He has a newborn at home. Little Wildcat says nothing to tell him where her own baby is. Bjorn heads for home having no idea what taking this nonspeaking female into his family will mean.
